In 1969, a Charlotte pediatrician, Dr. Jonnie H. McLeod, founded a counseling center to support those struggling with substance use disorder. By 2018, more than 16,000 unique patients received treatment through McLeod Center’s programs. The life-changing work of McLeod Centers was made possible by the vision of one woman, who believed that individuals struggling with substance use disorder should always be treated with dignity and respect.
